Quick Tip #88: Are all LinkedIn endorsements worth keeping?
May 8, 2014
The short answer is - probably not. Since LinkedIn introduced the endorsement feature towards the end of 2012 you may have had people are endorsing you for skills you never knew you had ("How do they know I cook a great chilli?"). It may be that LinkedIn has prompted your contacts to endorse you for some of your less prominent skills or your contacts may have chosen these themselves. So, should you keep everything on your profile?
Of course there is something gratifying about receiving a nod of recognition from people if it is for irrelevant or low level skills it may just end up distracting people from those key skills that you are actually trying to emphasise. If you are a project manager you will probably want people seeing lots of endorsements for 'Prince2', 'Six Sigma' or 'Stakeholder engagement' rather than 'Microsoft Word', 'Administration' or 'Chilli Genius'.
Thankfully you can hide all of those non-relevant endorsements that appear on your LinkedIn profile and just keep a concise list of those that really sell your key skills, helping you draw attention to those that matter most.
