Quick Tip #82: Keep your LinkedIn activity secret
March 6, 2014
Why? Because otherwise everyone in your network will see that you have started to follow certain companies or have connected with recruiters and hiring managers. When you are searching for a new role you will want to utilise LinkedIn as a resource but you will probably want to avoid the embarrassing conversations with your manager that can come up when they see that you are suddenly connected to Harry, the recruitment consultant from XYZ Recruitment Agency or Malinder, the sales manager from Rusty Buckets Inc., your deadly rivals. The good news is that LinkedIn allows you to keep your activity secret so that updates do not get posted on your wall. It is also very straightforward to put in place. Just go to:1. Account & Settings2. Privacy & Settings3. Turn on/off your activity broadcasts4. Then uncheck the box that says: Let people know when you change your profile, make recommendations, or follow companiesAnd you're done!
